Elizabeth Webb will build distribution partnerships and consumer awareness of the brand in key overseas markets
Jeff Gillies, commercial director of Cairns-based Coral Expeditions, is beefing up his sales team in readiness for the arrival of the company’s fourth ship, Coral Adventurer, in April.

Gillies has appointed Elizabeth Webb, who has led the sales and distribution team over the last two  years, to the new role of international sales manager.

Webb will target the key markets of Britain, Germany, North America and the Scandinavian regions.

Attracting long-haul markets

‘I have been privileged to experience many of Coral Expeditions’ world class nature destinations, including the Tasmanian wilderness, the Kimberley and Papua New Guinea, and I look forward to building awareness of these voyages to key long-haul travel markets,' Webb said.

Liz Sawers, a 25-year travel industry veteran, will take over Webb’s duties as national sales manager. Sawers, who will also be based in Cairns, most recently worked for Viking Cruises for seven years where she was sales director for Australia and New Zealand.

Cathy Alexander, the new sales executive for Queensland, the Northern Territory and Western Australia, has a background of sales in the MICE (meetings, incentives, conventions and exhibitions) and events markets.

‘As a North Queensland local, I love Australian travel experiences and I am especially excited to be a part of a successful home-grown company,’ Alexander said.

Hiring across multiples role

Gillies said hiring is underway for a range of commercial, marketing and seafaring roles as the company expands for future growth.

He said Coral Adventurer — which will join Coral Discoverer, Coral Expeditions 1 and Coral Expeditions 11— remains well on track for her maiden voyage on April 24, 2019.

She will be floated out at Fincantieri’s subsidiary Vard’s Vung Tau shipyard in Vietnam on December 7 and will be named at a ceremony in Singapore on April 23.
