The new terminal had just been presented to the cruise industry by hosting the Seatrade Cruise Med Gala Dinner.
AIDAcara arrived at about 8 a.m. from San Sebastian de la Gomera on a transit call. At 10 p.m. the ship departed for its turnaround port, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.
AIDAcara came ahead of schedule, as Ports of Tenerife had originally planned to start operating its new cruise terminal this week. The facility will become fully operational toward the end of the year once its two passenger boarding bridges have been installed. Until then, passengers will use only the ground floor, as in the case of AIDAcara.
AIDAcara has been operating an itinerary departing on Saturdays from Las Palmas to Madeira, Lanzarote, La Gomera and Tenerife since June. She will continue sailing on the same route until Oct. 29.
Subsequently, AIDAcara is due to operate on a variety of Atlantic corridor itineraries until February when she will be repositioned to Hamburg to debut a late winter itinerary to Norway.
