The second and last engine room module for AIDAnova – manufactured by Neptun shipyard in Rostock Warnemünde – will begin its journey to the Meyer shipyard in Papenburg on Saturday afternoon to be installed in AIDAnova, the first fully-powered LNG cruise vessel, set to debut in a year from now.

The second so-called Floating Engine Room Unit (FERU), is 120mtr long and 42mtr wide. The four-deck-tall component contains three LNG tanks for AIDAnova. Two of the tanks are just shy of 35mtr in length, with a diameter of eight meters and a volume capacity of 1,550cu mtr each.

A third and smaller tank with a 5mtr diameter measures 28mtr in length and has a volume capacity of about 520cu mtr.

With the construction of the engine room modules at the Neptun shipyard and the investment in four Caterpillar dual-fuel engines, AIDA Cruises is an important driver of the local economy. More than 500 shipyard workers and 500 other service providers are currently employed at the Neptun shipyard. In addition, there are 120 Caterpillar employees who assembled the engines.

In exactly 366 days, on December 2, 2018, the world’s first LNG cruise ship will start its debut cruise season as it leaves Hamburg and sets sail for the Canary Islands.

A second sistership is set to enter service spring 2021.
