Alan Buckelew takes a new role at Carnival Corp. & plc

Alan Buckelew, who has served as Carnival Corp. & plc's chief operations officer, based in Shanghai since 2014, is returning to the US in a new role, chief information officer.

Buckelew oversaw Carnival Asia and led all the company's initiatives in China, which included establishing joint ventures such as those with China State Shipbuilding Corp. and China Merchants Corp. to explore creating a domestic cruise brand and building cruise ships in China, developing transit ports and homeports, talent development, training and supply chain and logistics.

He also established a strong management team in China, led by Roger Chen, who was hired as chairman at the start of 2016.

All the while, Buckelew continued to oversee maritime and port operations around the world and a number of other areas, including IT.

Chief maritime officer and evp Bill Burke and Giora Israel, svp global port and destination development, who previously reported to Buckelew, now answer directly to ceo Arnold Donald.

Buckelew had been tapped for Carnival Corp. & plc's newly created chief operations officer role in December 2013, after serving as president and ceo, Princess Cruises.

Carnival's previous corporate CIO, Ramón Millan, left some time ago and has been chief technology officer/CIO with AAA since early this year.
