René Kouwenberg, managing director at Passenger Terminal Amsterdam is stepping down on January 1. His successor is Dick de Graaff, currently the terminal’s commercial director.

Kouwenberg, who has worked for PTA as managing director for 18 years, announced the news Monday evening at PTA’s annual captain’s cocktail – a traditional event for stakeholders held towards the end of the year.

40-year career in hotel and cruise

'I can look back on a beautiful, almost 40-year career in the hotel and cruise industry. It was a great privilege to work together with fantastic colleagues, shipping companies and fellow ports. It is a good time to pay more attention to my private life now,’ Kouwenberg remarked.

de Graaff is looking to the future with confidence. ‘There are several challenges, including the search for a place for a new terminal where cruise in the city can grow,’ he commented.

PTA is also looking for more intensive cooperation with other cruise ports in the Netherlands, de Graaff told Seatrade Cruise News.

Record season this year

Kouwenberg departs PTA following a record 181 cruise ship calls this year, and over 425,000 passengers.

For 2019, the terminal expects 182 calls and around 450,000 cruisers.
