The wedding takes place while Pacific Jewel is in Gladstone
Christine Drennan and Matthew Moore, who live in Port Macquarie on the north coast of New South Wales and are currently on an eight-day round cruise from Sydney to the Great Barrier Reef, had planned to marry when Pacific Jewel arrived in Mooloolaba on February 22.

However, strong winds and swell prevented tender boats from taking passengers between the ship and shore. The wedding was off, or so it seemed, but hotel director Melissa Yates had other ideas.

Yates arranged for a special commitment service to be held on board and, while Captain Otty Ghoshroy couldn’t legally marry the couple, the rest of the day went ahead as planned with champagne, a wedding cake and a reception in the main dining room. The bride even wore her wedding dress.

P&O Cruises Australia had arranged for the wedding celebrant in Mooloolaba to fly to the next port, Gladstone, to officially marry the
couple today. The ceremony was held in The Dome at the front of the ship, with stunning views of the Queensland coast.
