Angela Merkel to attend Crystal Endeavor keel-laying

German Chancellor Angela Merkel is scheduled to attend the keel-laying for Crystal Endeavor—Crystal Yacht Expedition Cruises’ first newbuild—on Aug. 21 at MV Werften's Stralsund yard.

Joining Merkel will be Crystal president and CEO Tom Wolber, Genting Hong Kong chairman and CEO Tan Sri Lim Kok Thay, MV Werften president and CEO Peter Fetten and Western Pomerania Prime Minister Manuela Schwesig.

Some 500 MV Werften workers will also be present.

At nearly 20,000gt, Crystal Endeavor will accommodate just 200 passengers with all the luxurious amenities and special touches characteristic of Crystal. The yacht will feature generous public spaces, a full-service spa and salon, six restaurants including Nobu Matsuhisa’s Umi Uma, expedition rooms and elegant suites.

Itineraries for Crystal Endeavor's inaugural season—August 2020 through January 2021—were announced July 31. Bookings for the general public will open Aug. 22.
