Auckland racks up busiest day for cruise ships

Four cruise ships visited Auckland on February 18
Auckland had its busiest cruise ship day on record on February 18 with Seabourn Encore, Norwegian Star, L’Austral and The World in port.

Auckland Tourism, Events and Economic Development ceo Brett O’Riley said the four ships brought a total of 3,550 passengers to the city and that the cruise industry is playing an integral role in visitor spending.

According to Cruise New Zealand’s latest Economic Impact Report, the cruise industry will inject NZ$490m to the country’s GDP in the current 2016/17 season.

It predicts that the total number of passengers will be 282,538 in 2017/18, injecting NZ$536m into the economy.
