Australia is only around 2,000 passengers short of becoming Silversea’s No. 2 source market after the United States, the company’s ceo Roberto Martinoli told a media lunch in Sydney on the eve of Cruise360.

Martinoli, who hosted the lunch at Aria on the Circular Quay waterfront with chief marketing officer Barbara Muckermann and md Asia Pacific, Amber Wilson, said he is looking forward to welcoming Australia to seond place.

He spoke about the $170m in fleet wide refurbishments, the conversion of the line’s original ship, Silver Cloud which was launched in 1994 carrying 296 passengers that will join Silversea  Expeditions later this year and the introduction of the 596-passenger Silver Muse.

With nine ships and Silver Cloud making four vessels in the expedition fleet, 2018 deployment spans nearly 1,000 destinations.

Martinoli, who was appointed ceo last September and has been a  board member since 2013 and Barbara Muckermann, who is making her first trip to Australia, are taking part in CLIA Australasia’s Cruise360 at Hyatt Regency in Sydney on Friday.
