As announced in the December issue of Seatrade Cruise Review, the two Australian winners in the inaugural Seatrade Cruise News 20 under 40 work for Carnival Australia.

Sponsored by TVG Travel in Iceland, the idea to find bright talented young people from across the cruise sector—either based ashore or at sea—attracted 100 entries from across the globe.

Both say they are ‘honoured’

Shiky Chen, director market planning for Princess Cruises, and Lauren Miller, general counsel Carnival Australia, said they were honoured to be selected.

‘I’m thrilled and honoured to be one of the 20 under 40 finalists,’ Chen said. ‘My wonderful colleagues in the industry are my continued source of growth and inspiration.

‘I am grateful for their support and the opportunities afforded to me by Princess Cruises and Carnival Australia over the years,’ she added.

Testament to trail blazers

‘It is an honour to be a recipient of the Seatrade 20 under 40 award,’ Miller said. It is a testament to those who have blazed our trails and built the maritime industry and a reflection of the deep responsibility we have as the next generation to ensure a sustainable future.

‘In particular, I’m proud to be part of a passionate team at Carnival Australia and a deeply committed ethics, legal and risk team globally. I’m delighted our collective efforts have been recognised through this award.’

Allison ‘incredibly proud’

Stuart Allison, svp Asia Pacific for Princess Cruises, said he is ‘incredibly proud’ of Chen and Miller ‘who have contributed so much to the success of cruising in this region.’

Mary Bond praises Carnival Australia

Mary Bond, group director Seatrade cruise, said it was a ‘tough choice’ to find the top 20 from the 100 entries.

‘They should both feel very proud of their accomplishments so far and I wish them all the best for the future,’ Bond said.

‘Nothing pleases me more than to see young talent join and stay in the cruise industry.

‘Credit to Carnival Australia and its brands for giving the likes of Shiky and Lauren the opportunity to thrive and progress professionally. Young talent is cruising’s future.’
