Cruise ships are flocking to north Germany during Sail Bremerhaven 2015, an international windjammer festival. Today Oceania Cruises' Insignia made its first call at Columbus Quay Bremerhaven, and a number of German ships are visiting as well.

Insignia's maiden call was marked by a plaque and key ceremony involving Capt. Maroje Brajcic, port captain Andreas Mai and cruise terminal and port agent representatives.

Passengers took excursions in Bremerhaven and to Hamburg and Bremen. Cruise director Andy Heath said it was a pleasure for Insignia to be in port during fantastic weather so guests could enjoy the atmosphere of Sail 2015 right at the quay.

The new 'dream ship' of ZDF German television, Phoenix Reisen's Amadea, arrived at the Columbus Quay at noon, greeted by entertainers and live music.

Amadea is staying overnight and will cruise on Friday evening to Helgoland before returning to Bremerhaven Saturday.

Meanwhile, Albatros will dock on Saturday then depart together with Amadea at 10 p.m. under the Sail 2015 fireworks.

Columbus Cruise Center Bremerhaven expects another busy day Sunday with 1,500 passengers disembarking from Amadea and Albatros. New passengers will embark for two fully booked cruises that depart at approximately 5 p.m. for Iceland and Norway.

This weekend Bremerhaven is expecting more than 4,000 cruise passengers and many other visitors.
