Bright outlook for Stavanger's 2016 season

Stavanger opened this year's cruise season at the weekend, welcoming P&O Cruises' Oriana. Stavanger was the first port of call foe the ship currently on a Northern Lights hunt to the North Cape.

After a slight decrease in 2015, Stavanger expects close to 19% more cruise guests in 2016. Depending on occupancy passengers number may excel go over 300,000 this year compared to the 252,500 who visited in 2015. Number of calls is likely to reach 161 in 2016, up 11% from 2015.

52 different cruise ships from 26 lines will visit Stavanger in 2016, including maiden calls by Viking Sea, MSC Musica, Zuiderdam, Koningsdam, Le Austral, Monarch and Mein Schiff 5.

Two of the Cunard queens will be in port on the same day, when both Queen Mary 2 and Queen Elizabeth visits Stavanger on Sunday August 28.

Most of the cruise calls are on weekdays, with Mondays and Thursdays being the busiest days in the Norwegian port.
