With the UK heading for its last bank holiday of the summer, it's normally a busy time as holidaymakers en route to airports or driving to the coast or into the countryside.

According to Mike Hall, head of marketing at Cruise and Maritime Voyages, the company has two cruises departing over the bank holiday weekend and 'sterling currency on board and departing from a UK port close to home are proving favourable options.'

On Saturday CMV has over 1,300 people booked on Magellan sailing from London Tilbury to the Norwegian Fjords. Meanwhile, in Liverpool, Marco Polo will set sail for a cruise to Canada with 750 people on board.

CMV has sold 96% of its cabins for this year and is 50% sold for next year, Hall reports.
