Busy cruise month for Hamburg

Busy cruise month for Hamburg
May is turning into a busy month for Hamburg with several cruise highlights: maiden calls, the 826th Hamburg Port anniversary with six cruise ships, and nearly 40 calls with more than 100,000 passengers.

May 1 saw the maiden visit of MSC Splendida at the HafenCity Cruise Centre, while the following weekend from May 8-10, six ships visited the city for festivities focused on the 826th Port anniversary.

AIDAbella, AIDAsol, Amadea, Artania, Europa 2 and Queen Elizabeth joined in the party including a laser show across the river Elbe from AIDAbella.

Other maiden calls this packed month were Ocean Diamond on May 12, Poseidon Expeditions’ Sea Spirit on the 16th, followed by TUI Cruises Mein Schiff 4 on the 22nd.

To ensure the success of maiden calls, Hamburg Cruise Centre welcomes ships with a sea shanty as well as offering cruise line a whole range of services, such as support for PR activities, or a welcome with a firefighter boat.

‘It is important to us, that a ship’s maiden call, or even a first visit by a cruise line to our Hanseatic city, is a special experience. After several years of working on the booking, receiving the ship in the port of Hamburg is the crowning glory’ stated Nadine Palatz, md of HCC.

In May, HCC is expecting around 40 calls and over 100,000 passengers.
