Cagliari’s new cruise terminal will be operational from spring 2015.

The 630sq mtr single-story facility, a modular tent structure managed by Cagliari Cruise Port, is located on Rinascita Quay, a few meters away from the port entrance.

The infrastructure investment, consolidates and further strengthens the homeport aspirations of the South Sardinia destination, being pitched as an alternative to more congested embarkation ports in the West Med, says Cagliari Cruise Port.

The facility will be able to cater to any size ship berthed alongside the 480mtr long west quay (Ponente) and 450mtr long (Levante) east quay.

A 58% increase in passenger numbers is anticipated this year with Costa Cruises returning to the port and undertaking 18 partial turnarounds.

In total, Cagliari is expecting 59 ships bringing 129,000 cruise visitors in 2015, informs the port authority’s Valeria Mangariotti.

The nearby white sand dunes of Poetto, overlooking the Gulf of Angels, have been selected as official beach of the 2015 Expo, the international exhibition, embracing technology, innovation, culture, traditions and the best Italy has to offer to the worldwide audience.

Visiting cruise passengers will be able to experience the many shows, festivals, wine and food events which will take place along the longest stretch of beach in Italy (6 km).
