Supermodel, singer, songwriter and former first lady of France Carla Bruni-Sarkozy will serve as the godmother of Mystic Cruises' first ship.

Porto naming on April 6

World Explorer is scheduled to be named during festivities in Porto, Portugal, on April 6.

Bruni had a long, successful career as a model before focusing on singing and songwriting, with several gold and platinum albums to her credit. In 2008, she married Nicolas Sarkozy, who was president of France from 2007 to 2015.

Embodiment of European sophistication and elegance

Bruni embodies the 'sophistication and elegance of European design that we put to the ship’s development,' said Mário Ferreira, CEO, Mystic Cruises. 'Ms. Bruni, in her work as model and singer, as well as the work she did with charities across the world, is the perfect ambassador for our ship.'

Bruni is scheduled to perform some of the songs from her latest album, 'French Touch,' during the christening event.

First in a series

World Explorer is the first in a planned series of 176-passenger luxury expedition newbuilds for Mystic Cruises from Portugal's WestSea Viana. They're scheduled to operate for Mystic affiliate Nicko Cruises of Germany and under the Mystic brand for international markets, including the US.
