Carnival Australia’s three ships in Port Moresby
The three Carnival Australia ships — P&O Cruises Australia’s Pacific Jewel and Pacific Explorer and Princess Cruises’ Sea Princess — which were chartered to provide additional accommodation for the APEC 2018 Summit in Port Moresby from November 15-17, each sounded their booming ‘whistles’ seven times to achieve the equivalent of a 21-gun salute to Papua New Guinea.

The accompanying photograph shows Sea Princess as she passes the two P&O ships on her way out to sea on Monday.

Pacific Explorer will depart Port Moresby on Tuesday and Pacific Jewel sails on Wednesday.

As previously reported, it was the first time that Papua New Guinea had hosted the Summit on behalf of the 21 countries that make up the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) and Carnival Australia chairman, Ann Sherry, held a session aboard Pacific Explorer which was addressed by national leaders including President Xi Jinping of China, US vp Mike Pence and Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison.

Successful APEC 2018

‘The successful hosting of APEC 2018 was a truly defining event for Papua New Guinea, which it is hoped will leave a legacy of economic growth for its people, especially the young for whom this will be crucial,’ Sherry said.

‘Carnival Australia and our P&O and Princess ships were proud to play a part in PNG and Port Moresby’s success in hosting an event that put PNG in the international spotlight.’
