Carnival Cruise Line has carried half a million passengers since entering the Australian market in 2012 when the 88,500gt Carnival Spirit was permanently home-ported in Sydney.

She has been joined by sister ship Carnival Legend for the Australian summer seasons since 2014.

First-time cruisers, the Anderson family from the Sydney suburb of Davidson, tipped the scales to 500,000 passengers when they sailed to New Caledonia aboard Carnival Spirit this month.

Vp Australasia Jennifer Vandekreeke said reaching the half million mark less than four years after debuting in Australia is testament to the company’s popularity in the local market.

Vandekreeke paid tribute to the ‘strong and supportive partnerships’ the line has with local travel agents.

‘They embraced our free-spirited, fun-loving ethos right from the beginning and have played a big part in helping us reach this great milestone,’ she said.
