Carnival hires senior chief to lead shoreside and shipboard HR

Ron Phillips - a new senior role that combines oversight for shoreside and shipboard personnel
Carnival Cruise Line hired a human resources professional with experience at a major hospital system, Comcast, Ryder Transportation and McDonald's Corp. as svp human resources - Office of People and Potential. Ron L. Phillips will start Oct. 19 in what is essentially a new role.

Phillips will oversee shoreside and shipboard human resources, including talent acquisition, talent management, leadership development, human capital planning, employee engagement, compensation and benefits, and performance management. He will report directly to Carnival president Christine Duffy.

Carnival previously had a vp human resources, a position that had been open for awhile. Phillips' role is much more comprehensive since it’s at an svp level and also involves shipboard HR.

Phillips has nearly 20 years of HR experience, most recently serving as chief human resources officer for New York Presbyterian Hospital, which encompasses seven major hospitals, 23,000 employees and 6,000 affiliated physicians. Prior to that he spent eight years in HR roles at Comcast, rising to svp. He has also served in HR roles at Ryder Transportation and McDonald's Corp.
