The brand's president and ceo Lisa Lutoff-Perlo took the title as being the first person to make a donation to Port of Akureyri’s tree planting initiative.
'The timing couldn’t have been better!’ said a delighted Pétur Ólafsson, Akureyri’s port director.
‘It was a pure coincidence that Ms Lutoff-Perlo was onboard and was able to accepted our invitation to be the first cruise guest to make a donation.’
As reported by Seatrade Cruise News earlier this year, Port of Akureyri will contribute directly to Iceland's environmentally conscious efforts with a tree-planting programme designed to offset carbon emissions from visiting cruise ships and passengers.
To contribute to the fulfilment of the Paris Agreement, Port of Akureyri has signed a deal with Eyjarfjordur Forestry Association to plant 2,000 trees locally every cruise season from this year.
Passengers can also contribute directly to the cause by donating €2.00 and have a tree planted by the Forestry Association in their name.
Akureyri welcomed 104 calls and 128,398 passenger and crew last year and is anticipating a 30% year-on-year increase in 2017.
