Chile's ports association has become an associate member of the Florida-Caribbean Cruise Association.

'This is very beneficial for the corporation. It will allow us to be in continuous contact with the lines and cruise ports, participate in international fairs and conferences and have access to privileged information about this industry on a continental level,' said Ignacio Covacevich, president of the Corporación de Puertos del Cono Sur.

Covacevich added that Conosur has become a benchmark in Chile as a result of its relentless work with the public and private sectors in recent years to promote laws and policies that facilitate growth of the cruise industry.

Conosur leaders paid an official visit to the FCCA in conjunction with Seatrade Cruise Global in Fort Lauderdale in March. In a meeting with FCCA/Carnival Corp. chairman Micky Arison and FCCA president Michele Paige, the delegation talked about the development of the cruise market in the region and major achievements at the national level in this area, reinforcing the institutional linkages between the two organizations.

As an FCCA member, Conosur can participate in the association's annual cruise conference, which takes place in San Juan, Puerto Rico, this year. Conosur will also appear in the FCCA's business directory and can use the FCCA logo in its publications and documents, among other benefits.

Conosur is a private, nonprofit organization whose members consist of the ports, port companies and associated entities in Chile that handle cruise ships. They include Puerto Arica, Puerto Iquique, Puerto Antofagasta, Puerto Coquimbo, Puerto Valparaiso, Puerto Talcahuano, Puerto Montt and Puerto de Castro, Puerto Chacabuco and Austral Port (Punta Arenas and Puerto Natales) along with the Valparaíso Passenger Terminal and tour operator Destination Management Chile.
