CLIA Australasia joins global Plan A Cruise Month

CLIA Australasia joins global Plan A Cruise Month
CLIA Australasia, which held its inaugural National Cruise Week in Australia and New Zealand in September 2012, will join CLIA’s global roll out of Plan A Cruise Month this October.

For the first time CLIA offices around the world will synchronise their annual promotions to the Plan A Cruise Month introduced in the United States last year.

'As the cruise industry continues to grow globally, the opportunity to expand Cruise Month internationally was a natural progression as we strive to raise consumer awareness about the unlimited choices cruising offers for every type of traveller,' said Cindy D’Aoust, president and ceo, CLIA.

'While each region will create programmes specific to their market, the Cruise Month brand will be used globally with the overall objectives to promote cruise travel, bring resources and tools to our travel agent community, and shine a spotlight on the global cruise industry.'

Plan A Cruise Month will be held in North America, Australasia and Europe, with tailored efforts to meet the needs of each market.

‘As the cruise industry continues to boom in Australia and around the world, a week is no longer enough time to promote cruising,’ CLIA Australasia commercial director Brett Jardine said. ‘It is a natural progression to follow our colleagues in North America in expanding our annual cruise campaign to a full month.’

He said October is particularly timely Down Under as it coincides with the start of the 2016/17 cruise season.

Last month CLIA Australasia announced it has changed the date of this year’s third annual Cruise360 from May 6 to September 16.

Again, it is adopting the US idea of holding the event at the start of the peak wave season.
