Cruise Lines International Association estimates 30m people will take cruise vacations in 2019, up 6% from the expected 28.2m in 2018.

The United States still maintains a wide lead as the top passenger source market, followed, in order, by China, Germany, the UK, Australia, Canada, Italy, Spain, France and Brazil.

18 newbuilds for CLIA fleet of 24 total in 2019

CLIA tallies 18 new ships to be delivered for its member lines next year, with a total of 272 member line vessels projected to be in service by June.

CLIA counts Greg Mortimer, Carnival Panorama, Celebrity Flora, Costa Venezia, Costa Smeralda, Coral Adventurer, Hanseatic Nature, Hanseatic Inspiration, MSC Grandiosa, MSC Bellissima, Norwegian Encore, Le Dumont d'Urville, Le Bougainville, Sky Princess, Spectrum of the Seas, Scenic Eclipse, Spirit of Discovery and Mein Schiff 2.

(This compares to the 24 newbuilds in the Seatrade Cruise Orderbook, which counts those of all lines, not just CLIA members. The six ships coming for non-CLIA operators are Viking Jupiter, Flying Clipper, Roald Amundsen, Hondius, World Explorer and Azora.)

Agents forecast higher cruise sales

CLIA also said eight of 10 CLIA-certified travel agents polled expect their cruise sales to increase in 2019.
