Contest to name Dream Cruises' Global-class ship as keel-laying nears

Largest cruise ship ever built in Germany

In anticipation of the ship's 2020 delivery, Dream Cruises has launched a contest to propose a name, in English and/or Chinese, for the new vessel. It will have 5,000 lower berths with capacity for 9,500 passengers total, among the highest in cruising. Featuring 2,500 large, family-style cabins, the accommodations will be able to sleep two, three or four passengers, while a split bathroom design will allow for two people to use the facilities simultaneously.

This will be the largest cruise ship ever built in Germany, and cutting-edge technology will feature facial and voice recognition to make the experience as seamless as possible.

For the winners: 25 free cruises/1m HK dollars of cabins

The contest will be divided into two categories, for the general public and for travel agents, with one winner from each category receiving a prize. For the public, that will be 25 free cruises on the Global-class ship, while the travel agent's agency will receive 1m Hong Kong dollars' (US$127,398) worth of cabins on board.

Keel-laying VIPs

As for the keel-laying, Western Pommerania Prime Minister Manuela Schwesig is scheduled to attend, along with Genting Hong Kong chairman and CEO Tan Sri Lim Kok Thay, Genting HK group president Colin Au and Dream Cruises president Thatcher Brown. MV Werften president and CEO Peter Fetten and more than 700 shipyard workers are also expected to be on hand.

The event, and streaming, are to start at 2 p.m. CEST Tuesday.
