Costa Atlantica set sail on a 46-day voyage from Tianjin International Cruise Terminal on November 30, 2016, taking more than 2,000 passengers across two continents, visiting 12 islands in nine countries.
'In line with China’s "One Belt, One Road" initiative, Costa Asia has put in tremendous effort, together with Caissa Touristic, to design this new itinerary,' stated Buhdy Bok, president of Costa Group Asia.
This follows the successful uptake of longer voyages by the China source market including Costa's World Cruise sailing from Shanghai in 2015.
Over 100 passengers from that sailing chose to join Costa Atlantica's recent South Pacific cruise.
As the first-ever large cruise ship from China to visit the South Pacific Islands, Costa Atlantica’s voyage enhanced cooperation between China and South Pacific island countries in tourism exchanges, cultural communication and shared economic growth.
This importance was recognized as Costa Atlantica arrived in Vanuatu, Tonga, French Polynesia, American Samoa, New Caledonia, and Papua New Guinea, where passengers were welcomed by local governments and citizens.
Heads of state and government officials explored Costa Altantica onboard and exchanged gifts with Captain Nicolo Alba.
The 46-day sailing crossed the equator and International Date Line.
Costa Atlantica is currently homeporting in Tianjian and then Shanghai beginning in March 2017.
