Costa Concordia refloat is delayed several months

Costa Concordia refloat is delayed several months
Costa Concordia’s refloating is now scheduled for completion in March or April, not January, as previously anticipated. In discussing the revised timeline, Costa Crociere said the companies engaged in the salvage operation believe the new schedule is a realistic estimate for maintaining a high level of safety and environmental protection at the wreck site, off Giglio.

In addition, the new schedule allows for the delivery of necessary components and materials by all the various subcontractors.

Costa said this unprecedented project is dynamic and evolving as new technologies and operational solutions are tested to ensure the effectiveness of the removal plan and prevent environmental impact.

For example, the drilling techniques have been revised based on the mapping of the seabed, and the underwater support installation needed to be updated on the engineering and construction level, based on the final geological and sea-life analysis.

Once Costa Concordia is refloated, the wreck will be towed to an Italian port.
