'Bravo Chef' is staged in the ship's theater with a television-style format
Costa Cruises puts its executive chefs in the spotlight for 'Bravo Chef,' a cooking show where they prepare typical Italian regional recipes and international dishes.

At a kitchen recreated in the ship's theater, the chefs cook while their work is projected on big screens, along with the list of ingredients.

The regional dishes are from Costa's daily menus, featuring 520 representative dishes from 18 regions of Italy.

Some of the recipes prepared in 'Bravo Chef' are spaghetti with anchovies and breadcrumbs from Sicily and veal saltimbocca alla romana (veal, prosciutto and sage, rolled up and cooked in dry white wine and butter) from Rome. International dishes include French bouillabaisse (fish stew) and bacalao pil-pil (dried and salted cod with olive oil, chili pepper and garlic), traditional in the Basque cuisine.

'Bravo Chef' is souped up with the maitre d’ explaining the proper use and position of dishes, cutlery and glasses, while the sommelier proposes the best selection of wines for each dish. The format is that of a television show with the cruise director in the presenter’s shoes.

At the end, the audience is invited to answer a question related to the recipe presented by using a remote control. The first to give the correct answer wins a dinner for two at the on-board Club Restaurant.

And, to test passsengers' cooking skills, 'Bravo Chef 'will also have a battle version where contestants compete to become 'Bravo Chef for a day.' They'll grapple with the preparation of a dish using surprise ingredients contained in 'mystery boxes,' in front of a jury comprised of the food and beverage director, maitre d' and a passenger. The cruise director will present the competition on the open deck poolside and the winner gets a dinner for two at the Club Restaurant or Burger d’Autore (Italian gourmet burgers).

'Bravo Chef' just debuted aboard Costa Pacifica and will be implemented each cruise on seven other ships—Costa Fascinosa, Costa Deliziosa, Costa Magica, Costa Favolosa, Costa Diadema, Costa Luminosa and Costa Mediterranea.
