Costa Crociere Foundation supports new social, environmental causes

Costa Crociere Foundation supports new social, environmental causes
From providing free dental care for underprivileged youth to job training and a plastics recycling project, six nonprofit organizations in Italy have been selected to receive funding from the Costa Crociere Foundation.

The projects entail social betterment or environmental protection, and were chosen from among 240 proposals received.

'Un dentista per amico' (A Caring Dentist) will provide free dental care to young people living in foster care or shelters or from disadvantaged families in the Province of Genoa.

'Le vie del Mare' (A Vocation for the Sea) will provide vocational training for at-risk youth in the Genoa area. The training covers various trades linked to the sea and seafaring. After their training, students will get a three-month internship chosen on the basis of personal preferences and local opportunities.

'La Bottega dei miracoli' (The Shop of Sea Miracles) facilitates social inclusion and job opportunities for people with Down syndrome and for youth who are not engaged in education, employment or training (NEETs), by opening and running a retail outlet selling typical regional products in Pisa's Piazza dei Miracoli.

A 'Women In Technology' project helps young female NEETs enter the work world by setting up their own entrepreneurial ventures. The pilot phase involves three high schools in Campania, Calabria and Sicily, plus support services for a total of 150 young women.

'La casa senza violenza' (A Safe Haven) provides support for women victims of domestic violence who decide to leave home. The initiative supplements services like emergency shelters and medium-to-long term accommodation for battered women and their children.

The environmental project supported by Costa Crociere Foundation will recycle plastic to make items using a 3-D printing process. The plastic waste recovered by Ligurian fishermen will be recycled to make educational kits enhancing the marine environmental awareness of visually impaired children.

The Costa Crociere Foundation is an independent organization set up in October 2014 with a mission to promote the social and environmental betterment of communities in Italy.
