The centre of Genoa will come alive on July 7 for a day of celebrations to commemorate Costa Cruises' 70th anniversary.

Organised together with the city of Genoa, the Costa Zena Festival will offer over 20 free attractions across the city center and includes a giant water slide, and concerts by Al Bano and Romina Power, Michele Bravi, Elodie, The Kolors, Francesco Gabbani e Ermal Meta by Radio 105, Genoese comedians, a food district with on board delicacies, street artists, Peppa Pig and PJ Masks, a photo exhibition by Oliviero Toscani and a  DJ set.

'To celebrate Liguria and Genoa, that has been our home for 70 years, we decided to organize an extraordinary festival, full of attractions, concerts, shows, and exceptional entertainment opportunities for all ages, never seen together in a single event. The idea is to transform Genoa into a cruise ship, sharing with the Genoese people the emotions and happiness that only a Costa cruise can offer,' said Luca Casaura, svp global & strategic marketing of Costa Cruises.

Neil Palomba, president of Costa Cruises commented: 'We continue our celebrations to mark the 70th anniversary of Costa Cruises by sharing this important milestone with our city of Genoa, introducing our fellow citizens to the cruise experience and sharing with them the happiness we deliver to our guests every day.'

Record breaking waterslide along main street

A 1.8km path of bunting with a series of nautical flags will adorn the streets of the city and 320mtr record breaking water slide will be located in the main street Via XX Settembre, the longest to be built in a city.

The slide will take advantage of the natural slope of the road and the 'Solarium in the square' area will have deck chairs, parasols and bar service in Piazza De Ferrari.

Live concerts by Italian artists

The event will start at 10.00 am live from radio 105's mobile studio located in Piazza De Ferrari and equipped with a stage from which the station’s DJs will broadcast and entertain the audience.

In the evening Costa Zena Festival will be focused on the Porto Antico area with live performances by Italian artists.

The Mayor of Genoa, Marco Bucci, said, 'We celebrate 70 years of a reality born in our city, which still has its official headquarters here with a thousand employees and that finally will return to our port in the coming months.'

To refresh the festival audience, Costa will offer 2 tons of ice cream from its Gelateria Amarillo and food selected by Bruno Barbieri, pizza and burgers.
