Costa to use Tarragona as a base port

Costa neoRiviera will undertake 17 turnarounds form Tarragona this summer
Costa Cruises has chosen Tarragona as a base port for one of Costa neoRiviera's West Med summer 2017 itineraries.

Starting from June 2 to September 22, the 1,727 guest ship will turnaround 17 times in Tarragona offering weekly cruises calling at Savona, Porto Torres, Menorca, Ibiza, Formentera and Palma before returning to Spain's Costa Duarada port.

The deployment will bring an estimated 25,000 extra passengers to Tarragona this season.

The above, coupled with two calls by Costa Favolosa, planned in September and October, means that Costa ships will visit the port of Tarragona up to 19 times, bringing a total of 32,000 passengers.

During turnaround days Costa neoRiviera will be berthed in Tarragona port for 17 hours from 09.00 am to 02.00 am the of the following day providing opportunities for passengers to visit the UNESCO World Heritage Siteof the ancient Roman town of Tarraco or an 8-hour tour to Poblet Monastery and the Montblanc churches or for thrill seekers, the cruise line has signed an agreement with PortAventura World Parks & Resorts, one of Europe’s leading theme parks with fast-track passes for Costa guests.

Josep Andreu, chairman of the Port of Tarragona thanked Costa Cruises, 'as this is the first time we are a regular home port for a cruise ship and is a boost for Tarragona Cruise Port Costa Daurada,' a partnership between the port, local tourism authorities, PortAventura and URV(Tarragona University).

Tarragona is expected 40 cruises and 40,000 passengers in 2107.
