Hurricane Danny is expected to weaken into a tropical storm as it approaches the Leeward Islands
Two Royal Caribbean International ships and one Carnival Cruise Line vessel revised routes to avoid Hurricane Danny.

San Juan-based Adventure of the Seas will not call at St. Johns, Antigua; Castries, St. Lucia; or Bridgetown, Barbados this weekend.

Port Everglades-based Oasis of the Seas will switch from an eastern to a western Caribbean route and call at Costa Maya and Cozumel.

Royal Caribbean alerted passengers booked for Freedom of the Seas, Navigator of the Seas and Independence of the Seas to monitor www.royalcaribbean.com for any additional updates.

Miami-based Carnival Glory's Aug. 22 seven-day cruise also will switch from an eastern Caribbean itinerary to a western route. Instead of visiting Half Moon Cay, St. Thomas, San Juan and Grand Turk, the ship will call at Grand Cayman, Roatán's Mahogany Bay, Belize City and Cozumel.

Forecasters at the National Hurricane Center in Miami said interests in the Leeward Islands and the Virgin Islands should monitor the storm's progress.

Late Friday Danny had weakened to a Category 2 hurricane with maximum sustained winds of 110 mph/175 km/h with higher gusts. Additional weakening is forecast, and Danny is expected to become a tropical storm on Sunday as it approaches the Leeward Islands.

Forecasters said tropical storm watches may be required for portions of the Leeward Islands and the Virgin Islands on Saturday.
