About 50 passengers took the opportunity to change ships in Sydney on Saturday when Crystal Serenity and Crystal Symphony met in the port during their 2018 world voyages.

Crystal Serenity arrived in Sydney on Friday during a 112-day voyage that left Los Angeles for Rome on January 23.

Crystal Symphony arrived Saturday on a 114-day voyage that left Cape Town on January 7 for Fort Lauderdale.

It was a historic occasion when both ships sailed out of Sydney together on Sunday afternoon, with Serenity heading up the east coast of Australia, where she will make a maiden call at Cooktown, and Symphony proceeding to New Zealand.

On Saturday night the 350 passengers from both ships making a full world voyage were invited to a gala dinner at the Sydney Town Hall, the largest and most ornate late 19th-century civic building in Australia.

A highlight of the evening was a recital on the grand organ which was installed in 1890 and described as ‘the finest organ ever built by an English organ builder.’

Karen Christensen, svp and md Australia and New Zealand, showcased last year’s multimillion-dollar makeover of Crystal Symphony on Saturday during a media tour and dinner in Waterside, the former Crystal Dining Room.

Christensen said Crystal Serenity, which will overnight in Sydney on February 8 next year during a 2019 world voyage from Los Angeles to Monte Carlo, will undergo refurbishment later this year.
