Customising Singapore shorex

Singapore Tourism Board
Inaugural shorex workshop participants
Singapore Tourism Board recently held its inaugural shore excursion workshop giving participants a chance to ‘get hands-on in brainstorming novel shorex ideas,’ Annie Chang, STB's deputy director of cruise tells Seatrade Insider.

At the workshop, a wide range of cruise professionals ranging from ground handlers, travel association executives, hoteliers and cruise line executives, thought through the needs and taste of cruise passengers who have limited time at destinations.

Popular Singapore shorex packages include culture-heritage tours to former ethnic enclaves such as  Chinatown, Kampong Glam and Little India, as well as other local experience tours such as food tours at Maxwell hawker centre and Tiong Bahru market. High tea at the famous Raffles Hotel is also a highlight.

Other tours cruise passengers go on are to the Gardens by the Bay and Marina Bay Sands sky park, breakfast at the zoo, museum tours and battlefield tours (especially for the Commonwealth guests).

‘The aim was to create pre- and post-cruise tours which offered seamless experiences. The workshop participants identified different types of passengers on board cruise ships and came up with unique Singapore shorex packages,’ she added.

Chang said STB is looking to interest cruise lines in events that fit in with their deployment dates. Singapore plays host to international events such as the F1 night race (annually) and the Women's Tennis Association Championship (from 2014-2018).
