Designed to appeal to Japanese travelers and those keen to experience a Japanese-themed voyage, Diamond Princess features a distinct Japanese flavour as a result of the refurbishment in 2014. Japanese-inspired facilities and enhancements include an extensive 8,800sq ft bath and garden complex offering the largest Japanese bath experience at sea, as well as a new specialty restaurant, Kai Sushi Bar, which serves Japanese-infused cuisine.
'We are very excited to celebrate our third year of Japan-based sailings, bringing guests to the shores of this fascinating country on board the Japanese-themed Diamond Princess,' said Farriek Tawfik, director of Southeast Asia, Princess Cruises.
The ship sets sail from the Marina Bay Cruise Centre Wednesday evening on a 14-day voyage that will call at Ho Chi Minh City (Phu My, Vietnam), Taipei (Keelung, Taiwan) and Osaka (Japan), with a two-day stopover in Hong Kong.
Following this trip, Diamond Princess will homeport in Yokohama from April 29 to September 6 for a season of sailings to destinations in Russia, Taiwan and South Korea, in addition to 14 ports across the Japanese archipelago and the Shiretoko Peninsula on the island of Hokkaido. Highlights include land and sea vacations taking guests to ancient temples and castles of Kyoto, as well as the scenic country of Mount. Fuji and Hakone National Park.
Diamond Princess, which carries up to 2,706 passengers, will be deployed again for Princess Cruises’ 2016 Japan homeporting season, featuring two new ports, Miyazaki and the castle ruins of Yatushiro, in addition to the current range of sailings.
As part of Princess Cruises’ fleet-wide 50th anniversary celebrations, there will also be special on-board festivities such as a balloon drop dance party and commemorative menus featuring dishes from the past five decades.
