Coast Guardsman - 'working tirelessly to rescue thousands'
The US Coast Guard Foundation activated a Disaster Relief and Response Fund to meet the critical needs facing the men and women of the Coast Guard.

In the wake of Hurricane Harvey, more than 1,000 USCG families have been displaced and over 3,000 Coast Guard members have been deployed. Many of these same crews and assets are now responding to Hurricane Irma.

'While they are working tirelessly to rescue thousands, for many, their own homes and possessions have been destroyed by the storm,' said Susan Ludwig, president of the Coast Guard Foundation.

The generosity of donors will allow the Coast Guard Foundation to provide immediate emergency support and long-term relief to these heroic men and women and their families, Ludwig said, as the rescue efforts turn to restoration and rebuilding.

'As a trustee of the Coast Guard Foundation, I urge you to help the Foundation help the rescuers,' added Carleen Lyden Walker, executive director, North American Marine Environment Protection Association. 'The Coast Guardsmen put themselves in harm's way to help others. We need to help them recover from these devastating events.'
