DNV GL Group promoted Tor Svensen to group evp, and Knut Ørbeck-Nilssen will succeed him as ceo of its maritime business area. Both will report to Remi Eriksen, who takes over as group president and ceo from Henrik Madsen in August.

Ørbeck-Nilssen has served as coo and svp maritime since the merger of Det Norske Veritas and Germanischer Lloyd in 2013. As ceo he will continue to operate from the maritime headquarters in Hamburg.

Svensen, who has been ceo and president of DNV GL maritime since the merger, was previously president of DNV maritime, oil and gas, having held many roles of progressive responsibility since joining DNV in 1993. In his new post he will support Eriksen with particular focus on developing customer relationships and strategic projects for the group.

Svensen praised Ørbeck-Nilssen's abilities after working closely with him the last two years. 'I am confident that he has the technical insight, management skills and not least the support from his colleagues necessary to lead the maritime organization. I look forward to continue supporting him and our key customers in my new role,' Svensen said.

For his part, Ørbeck-Nilssen said: 'As a result of the merger between DNV and GL, we are now positioned to provide an enhanced set of benefits for our maritime customers. I look forward to lead our maritime business and to ensure we remain the world’s leading classification society.'
