Sea Cloud II passengers landed by Zodiac at Portsmouth's Purple Turtle Beach
Sea Cloud II became the first cruise ship to visit Dominica following the ravages of Hurricane Maria in September.

Carrying approximately 200 passengers, the Sea Cloud Cruises vessel anchored at Purple Turtle Beach in Portsmouth on Dec. 28.

According to the Discover Dominica Authority, passengers participated in excursions offered in the north of the island, including tours to Fort Shirley at Cabrits National Park and horseback riding at Purple Turtle Beach.

Hurricane Maria's Sept. 18 pounding impacted Dominica's projections for a 44.3% increase in cruise passenger arrivals for the 2017/18 season. After Maria, lines canceled calls through last month.

The Discover Dominica Authority said TUI Cruises' Mein Schiff 3, with capacity for more than 2,000 passengers, is scheduled to visit Roseau on Jan. 28.

Ships are scheduled from other lines including Costa Cruises, Holland America and Carnival.
