Celebrity Edge's inaugural summer season will be in the Mediterranean in 2019.

Following a debut season in the Caribbean starting in December 2018, Celebrity Cruises' newest ship will head across the Atlantic and first visit Southampton.

Cruise line president and CEO Lisa Lutoff-Perlo announced the programme, including two ex-UK cruises, Tuesday night at a media and travel partner reception in London.

First up will be a preview sailing, May 13-15, followed by a 10-night Iberian Peninsula cruise, the ship's first European revenue cruise from Southampton, calling at Bilbao, La Coruña, Lisbon, Gibraltar, Cagliari and finishing at Civitavecchia (Rome).

Edge will spend May through to Nov. 1 sailing seven-, 10- and 11-night cruises from Rome and Barcelona stretching the breadth of the Mediterranean including the Greek Isles and featuring two new ports of call for Celebrity: Nauplion, Greece, and Santa Margherita, Italy, a picturesque town near Portofino.

Lutoff-Perlo also introduced British designer Kelly Hoppen and praised her work on Celebrity Edge.

'We have pushed the boundaries in every aspect of the on-board design and we have achieved that,' Lutoff-Perlo said.

'Design comes from experience,' according to Hoppen, 'and I get inspired when I travel.'

The Celebrity boss told Seatrade Cruise News that whilst some of the design features from Edge will be cascaded fleetwide as part of the recently announced $400m Celebrity Revolution modernisation programme, Hoppen will not be working on this.

Celebrity's head of UK & Ireland Jo Rzymowska was visibly brimming with excitement about Edge's European debut being in the UK. She referred to 2017 as an 'incredible year for the brand,' attributing the success in the 'sums of the part coming together.'

Rzymowska told Seatrade Cruise News: 'The fact Lisa came over to the UK to announce Edge's UK and European summer season debut is testament to how important this market is to the company.'

Lutoff-Perlo leaves the UK Wednesday on a weeklong European tour to promote Edge with stops in Barcelona, Naples and Athens together with Celebrity Edge travel ambassador Nate Berkus. 'Don't forget to follow me on social where I will be talking about the places we visit,' she told the London gathering

In addition to Edge, four other Celebrity ships will sail in Europe in 2019: Celebrity Infinity, Celebrity Constellation, Celebrity Reflection and Celebrity Silhouette.

In 2019, Celebrity Infinity returns to Europe for the first time since 2014, with itineraries including Italy, Malta, Greece and Croatia on alternating seven-night sailings from Venice to Rome and Rome to Venice.

Celebrity Constellation will also be returning to Europe with nine- and 10-night itineraries sailing from Venice, Barcelona and Rome.

Celebrity Reflection will call Dublin and Amsterdam home for eight- to 12-night sailings across northern Europe, from the British Isles to Scandinavia, Russia and Iceland.

And Celebrity Silhouette returns to Southampton to offer a variety of three- to 14-night cruises to Europe, including Scandinavia/Russia, the Norwegian Fjords, Ireland and Iceland.
