Emerald adds 3 vessels, combination itineraries in 2017
2017 is turning into a big year for Emerald Waterways, when the line will launch three new vessels, for a total of seven, and introduce new combination itineraries.

The fifth Star-Ship to sail the Rhine, Main and Danube is the newly announced Emerald Destiny, set to launch in April 2017. Also joining the fleet next year will be the purpose-built Emerald Radiance and Emerald Liberté.

Emerald Liberté can carry 138 passengers and, while smaller than the other Star-Ships, it offers all the same amenities, including a swimming pool and cinema. Liberté's April launch will mark the first time Emerald sails its own ship on the Saône and Rhône rivers, operating between Arles and Lyon, with optional extensions in Paris and Nice. The itinerary has been enhanced to include Emerald Active programs and an on-board cooking demonstration by an award-winning chef.

Emerald Radiance, which carries 112 passengers, will offer an intimate, upscale way to traverse Portugal’s Douro River. Riverview Suites, a new cabin category, are located on the Horizon Deck and clock in at a spacious 330 square feet. These suites feature panoramic vistas from Emerald’s drop-down windows and a separate bedroom and living area. With a deluxe walk-in wardrobe, larger bathroom and complimentary mini-bar, these suites offer all the amenities of the Owner’s Suites.

Travelers can combine two seven-night river cruises into a 14-night combination itinerary. 'Jewels of the Rhine' can be paired with 'Sensations of Southern France,' or 'Sensations of Southern France' can combine with 'Secrets of the Douro.' Transportation between the two cruises is included in the fare.

Pre- or post-cruise extensions are available to Amsterdam, Madrid, Lisbon, Paris and Nice.

For US travelers, Emerald is offering reduced airfares on all 2017 cruises when booked by Sept. 2, 2016. Travelers booking cruises of 15 or more days can fly to Europe for fares starting at $495 and receive €200 (US$225) per person on-board credit to be used for drink packages, Discover More optional tours, spa services or laundry.

Passengers booking seven- to 14-day cruises can fly for $995 and get €100 (US$112) per person on-board credit.

Fares start at $2,245 per person for a seven-night cruise.
