Aqua Amazon - four crew members missing after Saturday's sinking
An explosion on board Aqua Expeditions’ Aqua Amazon sank the ship and injured crew during Saturday’s regular turn-around and re-stocking.

No passengers were on board, but some crew members have been injured and four are missing, company founder and ceo Francesco Galli Zugaro said in a statement.

Galli Zugaro said his operations team is supporting local emergency services. He said an investigation is ongoing and more information will be released as it becomes available.

Passengers scheduled to depart Saturday were reassigned to Aria Amazon.

Aqua Amazon has operated three-, four- and seven-night cruises on the remote Peruvian section of the Amazon River.

Galli Zugaro founded the company in 2007 with the 12-suite custom-designed Aqua Amazon.

His second ship, the 16-suite Aria Amazon, was launched in 2011.

The company has worked closely with key partner Scenic, the privately owned Australian river cruise company that has chartered Aqua Amazon and Aria Amazon.

In October 2014 Aqua Expeditions launched its third luxury 20-suite Aqua Mekong to sail the Mekong River between Siem Reap in Cambodia and Vietnam’s Ho Chi Minh City.
