Jennifer Vandekreeke and the Cat in the Hat entertain children at the family fun day
Jennifer Vandekreeke, vp Australasia for Carnival Cruise Line, hosted a family fun day aboard the 2,680-passenger Carnival Legend in Sydney Friday with Dr Seuss characters Thing One and Thing Two and Cat in the Hat.

Young guests were treated to a green eggs and ham brunch, moose juice and goose juice before going up top to play in the splash park.

‘We carry more families than any other cruise line in the world and we are always trying to expand our horizons when it comes to ensuring kids and their parents have a memorable and enriching on-board experience,’ Vandekreeke said.

She announced that a new marine-themed children’s club called Camp Ocean will replace Camp Carnival when the company’s resident ship, Carnival Spirit, homeported in Sydney since October 2012, goes into drydock for a scheduled refurbishment in August.

‘The new larger kids’ club area will be splashed out in bright blue ocean hues, offering more than 200 educational and engaging ocean-themed activities such as sea salt art, sea shell craft, ocean bingo and make-your-own sailboats,’ she said.

Designed for children aged 2-11, Camp Ocean will feature three age-related areas including a Penguin colony for 2- to 5-year-olds, a Sting Ray camp for 6- to 8-year-olds and a Shark enclosure for 9- to 11-year-olds.

Vandekreeke said Camp Ocean will be a great fit for Australian children who have a natural fascination and affinity with the ocean.

‘We can’t wait to introduce Camp Ocean to our Australian ship and watch our youngest cruisers dive into the wonderful world under the sea,’ she said.

Camp Ocean will be rolled out across Carnival’s worldwide fleet.

The line will continue with its current teen programmes for 12- to 14-year-olds and 15- to 17-year-olds.
