Carnival's Carlos Torres de Navarra will succeed Disney's Russell Daya
Carnival Cruise Line's Carlos Torres de Navarra, vp strategic and commercial port development, has been named to head the Florida-Caribbean Cruise Association's Operations Committee. He starts Jan. 1.

'We will be focused on strengthening our relationships with destinations, ports and our FCCA members, along with representing the industry to achieve mutual success,' Torres de Navarra said. 'Additional focus will be placed on continuing to develop and enhance the guest experience at the destinations and to further expand opportunities for all our partners.'

He succeeds Russell Daya, executive director, marine & port operations, port developments & itinerary planning, Disney Cruise Line.

'I am honored to pass the torch to Carlos,' Daya said, noting how Torres de Navarra has shown 'unwavering dedication' to the Committee and FCCA's Platinum Members and partner destinations for more than a decade, providing 'invaluable interaction, participation, information and assistance at FCCA meetings and events.'

Daya added that serving as chairman the last two years gave him numerous opportunities to collaborate with the Committee and FCCA partners to improve the synergy between the industry and cruise tourism stakeholders.

The Committee opened new doors and further solidified FCCA's role as a bridge between the destinations and the industry, Daya said, and having developed relationships at a personal level 'makes the difference when addressing issues throughout the region.'

FCCA's Operations Committee is active in cruise industry concerns including tourism development, ports, safety and security, fostering an understanding of cruising and its practices and building bilateral relationships with partner destinations’ private and public sectors. The Committee is also involved with fostering increased revenue opportunities for ports and destinations, enhancing the destination experience and increasing the number of cruise passengers returning as stay-over visitors.

At Carnival Torres de Navarra oversees the strategic planning and execution of port development and port-related commercial agreements. He also works with Carnival Corp. & plc brands and destination stakeholders to optimize port strategies and agreements and plan long-term strategies across regions.

Before his Carnival Cruise Line role, Torres de Navarra spent more than than five years in Carnival Corp.'s Global Port and Destination Development group, involved in Mexico, Baja California, the Caribbean and select US ports, including Long Beach, California.

Earlier he spent close to seven years with Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. as assistant treasurer working in business development, liquidity and capital planning, financial risk management, acquisitions and port development.
