Fincantieri and Huarun Dadong Dockyard officials sign an exclusive cooperation agreement
Fincantieri has strengthened its position in the Chinese cruise market, signing an exclusive cooperation agreement with Huarun Dadong Dockyard (HRDD), one of the largest Chinese shipyards specialized in ship repair and refitting activities.

The agreement signed between Fincantieri’s director of ship repair and conversion business unit, Giorgio Rizzo and HRDD’s executive director Steven Liu, covers ‘ship repair and conversions aimed at servicing cruise ships based in China,' says Fincantieri statement.

‘The understanding includes the development of technical skills, project management, and logistics procedures’, continues Fincantieri.

The Italian shipbuilding group, through its dedicated Ship Repair and Conversion business unit, will provid, its technical expertise, which, combined with the extended shipyard facilities and rich experience on a broad range of ship types and skilled resources of HRDD, ‘will offer fundamental support to the emerging Chinese cruise sector and to the main foreign cruise lines operating in the local market,' states Fincantieri.

In March 2015, Seatrade Cruise News reported Costa had completed a major refurbishment of Costa Atlantica (including adding balconies) at Huarun Dadong Dockyard.

Its modern facilities, located at the mouth of Yangtze River and opposite both Shanghai port and Shanghai Waigaoqiao container terminal, are strategically positioned near the main Shanghai cruise terminal in the Baoshan District.

HRDD facilities include one graving dock measuring up to 380mtr x 103mtr and 4 floating docks, measuring between 195mtr x 36.5mtr and 360mtr x 68mtr.

This agreement represents another fundamental step in Fincantieri shipbuilding group’s penetration in the growing Chinese’s cruise market, following the 2014 agreements with Carnival Corporation and China CSSC Holdings Limited in new cruise shipbuilding sector, and the establishment of Fincantieri (Shanghai) Trading Co. Ltd, a branch office in China, headquartered in Shanghai.
