Fincantieri's Palermo shipyard cut steel on Tuesday for Koningsdam's sister, Nieuw Statendam, due for delivery in November 2018. The block being built in Sicily will later be moved to Marghera near Venice, where the ship will be constructed.

Keith Taylor, evp fleet operations, Holland America Group, was on hand for the steel-cutting ceremony.

'With Pinnacle class we have been able to try new things, expand our horizons and push boundaries, and while Nieuw Statendam is a sister to Koningsdam, we do have some new ideas that will be revealed in time,' HAL president Orlando Ashford said.

This is the 16th ship built for Holland America by Fincantieri, which most recently delivered Koningsdam on March 31.
