Fincantieri's Marghera shipyard held a coin ceremony for Carnival Horizon on Friday, signifying completion of the newbuild's exterior. The float-out is scheduled for Saturday.

The coin was placed in the superstructure by Clementina Zecchin of the Marghera yard, who served as godmother, a priest blessed the ship and champagne was smashed on the hull.

Fabrizio Timossi of Carnival’s corporate shipbuilding department represented Carnival at the ceremony.

The 133,500gt Carnival Horizon, sister of last year's Carnival Vista, is set to debut in Europe April 2, 2018.

After several Mediterranean voyages from Barcelona, the ship will reposition to New York for a summer of four-day Bermuda and eight-day Caribbean cruises. Then Carnival Horizon will shift to Miami for year-round six- and eight-day Caribbean cruises beginning Sept. 22, 2018. Carnival Horizon will also offer a special two-day cruise to Nassau from Miami Sept. 20-22, 2018.
