The latest in a busy period of cruise ship keel-layings took place at Fincantieri's Ancona yard Wednesday when Viking Sun's first block, 280 tons, was put into place. The ship is the fourth in Viking Ocean Cruises' series of six.

The 47,800gt Viking Sun is due for delivery in late 2017. It can accommodate 930 passengers, like sisters Viking Star (built at Marghera in 2015), the recently delivered Viking Sea (from Ancona, currently on its inaugural voyage) and Viking Sky (scheduled for February 2017 delivery from Ancona).
