Closely following its February coin ceremony, Seabourn Encore was launched Friday at Fincantieri's Marghera shipyard.

Serving as madrina, Marnie Tihany cut the cord to begin the flow of water into the building dock. She is the director of business development for Tihany Design and wife of hospitality designer Adam D. Tihany, who is responsible for creating the ship's interiors.

On hand for the float-out were executives including John Delaney, svp global marketing and sales for Seabourn, while Fincantieri was represented by Antonio Quintano, the Marghera yard manager.

The 40,350gt Seabourn Encore is due to join the fleet late this year. The all-veranda-suite ship is 210 metres long and 28 metres at the beam and will be able to reach a cruising speed of 18.6 knots.

Fincantieri has built 70 cruise ships since 1990, including 47 since 2002, and 14 more are currently being designed or built in the group's yards.
