Québec City's first Cruise Month, Sept. 16 - Oct. 16, will celebrate a booming cruise industry in the region with a variety of events and activities showcasing local businesses, arts and culture.

The Port of Québec is poised for a record-breaking year with a substantial increase in passengers, boosting numbers to new highs. A nearly 30% increase over the 2016 season is projected. This upsurge could take the port to an all-time high of 200,000 visitors.

The Cruise Month timing coincides with the region's peak cruise period and Cruise Lines International Association's annual Cruise Month. Plus, five ships are scheduled for maiden calls including Ponant's Le Soleal (Sept. 20), Viking Sky (Sept. 22), Silver Muse (Sept. 29), Viking Sea (Sept. 20) and Norwegian Jade (Oct. 11).

Cruise Month is a collaboration of city government, tourism and port officials that's intended to help passengers discover new and exciting experiences in the city. Different districts will offer promotions via social media contests and an array of cultural activities.

These include the ongoing Passages Insolites (to Oct. 15), pop-up public art installations throughout the Old Port district, Quartier Petit Champlain and Place Royale.

Festival de Cinema de la Ville de Québec (Sept. 13-23), an annual event, offers premieres and screenings of films from all over the world at various venues around the city.

For the outdoor food festival Cuisinez St-Roch (Sept. 15-17) shopkeepers showcase their diversity and originality with tastings and demonstrations.

On The Night of the Gallery (Sept. 16) visitors can stroll through the beautiful streets of Quartier Petit Champlain with a glass of wine in hand. During the evening 35 art galleries and artisans' shops will stay open late, and 29 top restaurants, including Laurie Raphael, Panache and Restaurant Initial, will provide elevated fare.

Journées de la Culture (Sept. 29 - Oct. 1) gives free access to top museums and activities. Nearly 10,000 artists, craftspeople and organizations will offer activities for visitors to discover the arts and culture of the area.

Family-focused activities, from performances of traditional and humorous songs to circus activities, cheerleading demonstrations and Zumba workshops, are part of Limoilou en Famille (Sept. 17).
