The visits allow local stakeholders including institutions, associations, chamber of commerce staff, local residents and media to look behind the scenes on a cruise ship, especially focussing on environmental matters.
The participants visited the vessel installations that limit environmental impact in air quality, noise, waste management and preservation of the marine environment.
FRCC runs an environmental commission with several objectives including encouraging cruise lines and agents to develop responsible cruising on the French Riviera (ranging from the vessel to excursions), offering local and eco-responsible tourist products and helping residents learn about the cruise industry and the work it does in protecting the environment.
The first ship visit organised by FRCC was to Royal Caribbean International's Independence of the Seas in June 2010. During that year FRCC won the Seatrade Insider Cruise Award Environmental Initiative for its activities in this area.
