G Adventures’ December 7 cruise, due to depart Ushuaia, Argentina, to the Antarctica peninsula, has been cancelled as engine repairs will not be finished on time.

The 134-passenger Expedition is berthed alongside in Ushuaia, where the portside engine failed ‘unexpectedly’ on November 18, whilst the ship was between cruises, the company said.

G Adventures’ engineering staff and the engine manufacturers have been working to rectify the issue in time for the scheduled departure this coming Sunday.

‘However we were advised that we could not guarantee the repair would be completed within the time frame required for the departure of this cruise,’ the company told Seatrade Insider.

‘The safety of our travellers is of paramount importance to us and due to these unusual and unforeseeable circumstances outside our control we had no alternative but to cancel the trip.’

G Adventures has contacted agent partners and passengers regarding alternative arrangements.

All passengers were offered a full refund and additionally have been given options to either rebook for a future cruise at a 15% discount or rebook onto another G Adventures tour with a choice of more than 700 trips around the world.

Anyone taking the second option will be offered a 20% discount and a refund of any balance.

Expedition is due to finish her Antarctic season on March 22 before heading to Africa for a West Africa cruise from Cape Town on April 21.
